• Avon Lake's Frequently Asked Questions

1. animals?
(A) All dogs must be registered with the county Domestic animals of any kind may not run free in the city and must be kept on a leash. No person shall keep or harbor any dog, which , by barking, howling or yelping causes inconvenience, annoyance, or alarm to another person.

2. Block Parties?
(A) A permit can be obtained by contacting the Service Department at least 7-10 days prior to the event.

3. Building Permits?
(A) Must be obtained by contractors and individuals conducting work in the City of Avon Lake.

4. Curfew?
(A) No minor under the age indicated shall loiter, wander, play or be present in or upon public streets, highways, alleys, vacant lots, public lots, or buildings, or other unsupervised places within the city between the hours indicated:
Age 12 and under: 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.
Age 13, 14, and 15: 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.
Age 16 and 17: 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. the same day

5. Disability Parking?
(A) Special parking locations and privileges for persons that have limited or impaired ability to walk, shall be provided and designated by the Municipality and all agencies, offices, and facilities where parking is provided. All vehicles must be equipped with a special placard or license plates.

6. Emergencies?
(A) Emergencies should be reported by dialing 911. The call will be routed to the appropriate services.

7. Garage Sales?
(A)No permit is necessary for garage sales. Signs must be posted on the same property as the sale. Signs are not permitted on utility poles, trees, or in the city right-of-way.

8. Lawn Maintenance?
(A)Grass and noxious weeds must be cut before reaching a height of 12 inches or prior to development of pollen or seed.

9. Parades?
(A)Any person may apply to the Mayor for permission to hold a parade. The application shall be in writing and in duplicate, submitted to the Mayor not less than ten (10) days prior to the proposed time of the parade.

10. Fires?
(A)Open fires are prohibited. Permission for recreational open burning(bonfires) shall be submitted in writing to the Fire Department ten (10) days prior to the fire being set.
