• Building Department

The building department has 5 employees who include the Building Official, two full time inspectors, one part time inspector, one full time secretary and a part-time secretary. This department issues permits for all construction of buildings and structures, and performs the required inspections required by each permit. Additionally, the Building Department registers contractors who are working in our City. We registered over 900 contractors in 2005.

The Building Department deals with residential (non-city) private property zoning this department has certified building inspectors, electrical inspector, and plumbing inspectors.

We will Answer all questions related to building projects and building construction issues by homeowners, architects, engineers, building owners, tenants and project managers. We enforce the Ohio Building Code and enforce the Residential Code of Ohio (These codes include the enforcement of the National Electric Code, the Ohio Mechanical Code and the Ohio Plumbing Code). We also perform plan reviews of all building projects as needed and perform inspections on all buildings and structures minimum of 12 separate trips (to site) for new building. Last year (2005) we performed approximately 5600 inspections. More of our services include furnish certificates of occupancy that coincides with grading plans as issued by engineering department. The Building department will also handle any complaints as they relate to buildings, create, retain and update all property files within the City and also retain all commercial building plans as long as the building exists and residential building permits.
