Location

Avon Lake is located 18 miles west of downtown Cleveland and 10 miles east of downtown Lorain. Elyria is 15 miles southwest.

Interstate Highway

Avon Lake is located approximately four (4) miles north of Exit 153 of I-90, and approximately ten (10) miles from the Ohio Turnpike.

Truck Routes

There are four (4) truck routes available in and out of Avon Lake:

U.S. Route 6 - Lake Road
State Route 83 - Avon Belden Road
Moore Road
Miller Road

Rail Connection

Norfolk Southern Railroad is available to properties on the south side of Pin Oak Parkway.

Hotel Accommodations

Fairfield Inn is located on State Rte. 611 and Chester Road.

Approximately 4.2 miles from Avon Lake, at I-90 Exit 156 (Crocker-Bassett Road), you will find a variety of hotel/motel accommodations, including Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn and Courtyard by Marriott, among others. Please see the links at the bottom of the page for hotels.

Avon Lake is close to three major hospitals in the surrounding areas:

Elyria Memorial Hospital - 14.9 miles
Fairview Hospital - 16.1 miles
The world-renowned Cleveland Clinic is 25.9 miles east of Avon Lake in Downtown Cleveland.

Airport

Cleveland Hopkins Airport is approximately 16 miles southeast of Avon Lake.

Water

Avon Lake Municipal Utilities Department ("ALMU") provides our water and sewer services. ALMU sells water to Medina County and the communities of Avon, North Ridgeville, Sheffield Lake, Sheffield Village, and the City of Medina. In April, 2008, Avon Lake's water won the Ohio Rural Water Association’s best tasting water award for the third time in four years. Rural water companies from throughout the state participated in the taste contest during the association’s spring conference.

In addition, Avon Lake Municipal Utilities offers the best water and sewer rates in the State of Ohio.

Electric

Avon Lake's electrical needs are provided by Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company.

Gas

Columbia Gas of Ohio provides the city's natural gas.

Internet, Cable and Telephone

Our internet, phone and cable needs are met by CenturyLink, WOW! (Wide Open West) and TimeWarner.

Trash Collection

Trash is collected by Republic Services (f/k/a Allied Waste).

Community Reinvestment Area

The Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) is a program established under state law that allows the City of Avon Lake to approve real property tax abatement for up to 100% of the taxes for up to fifteen (15) years for industrial and commercial expansion, renovation or new construction that creates additional jobs in the City. To date, twelve (12) projects have been approved and constructed receiving some level of real property tax abatement ranging from 50% to 100% from ten (10) to fifteen (15) years.

The City of Avon Lake offers several financial assistance tools to assist individual, office and commercial development or redevelopment.
