Attention: Allied Waste Industries is currently under a contract with the City (residents pay a monthly fee) to pick up garbage; appliances; bagged leaves and grass clippings in paper bags for composting; bundled branches or small twigs in paper bags for composting; blue bag recyclables; bulky items such as furniture, mattress, etc., carpeting; misc. rubbish and debris; and limited amounts of residential construction debris can be placed at the curbside for pick up on the same day as your regular garbage pick up day. ALL Avon Lake residents have garbage and trash pick up on MONDAYS, except when a major holiday falls on a Monday; then the pick up day will be on TUESDAY, following the holiday.
HOLIDAYS THAT AFFECT COLLECTIONS ARE THE FOLLOWING:
New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day
Allied Waste Industries Regulations for trash collection
Appliances Containing Refrigerant
(refrigerator, freezer, window air conditioner and dehumidifier) Freon must
be removed by a certified technician, will place a sicker with date and
signature on the item. If applicable the doors must be removed.
Carpeting
Cut into Approximately 5 FT. lengths and tied.
Metal Pipe, Metal Tubing(swings ect..)
Must be broken down or cut to approximately 4 FT. to 5FT. lengths.
Yard Waste
Any leaves, grass clippings, garden waste or other yard materials must be
placed in a paper yard waste bags for composting. Each bag cannot weigh
more than 40 lbs.
Branches
Cut into approximately 4 FT. lengths and tied in bundles or placed in paper yard waste bags for composting. Each bag cannot weigh more than 40 lbs.
Construction Debris
Approximately 300 lbs. per week can be disposed of and must be tied in bundles
or placed in containers. Each container cannot weigh more than 40 lbs. Lumber cut to 4ft. lengths and bundled sheet materials cut to 2ft. by 3ft. widths and bundled. Bend over all nails left in material or lumber.
Stumps
Allied Waste will pick up stumps under 50 lbs.
Logs and RR Ties
Allied Waste will pick up 10 logs maximum per week. The RR Ties and logs must be cut into 18" to 24" lengths.
The following items are prohibited: Infections wastes,
asbestos, sewage sludge, auto or truck batteries, car tires, used motor
oil and drums over ten gallons unless they are empty and the tops are removed.
Note: Lorain County solid waste management district makes
arrangements for collection of many items not picked up by BFI such as tires
off rims, paints, ect.. They advertise these special collections periodically
in your local newspaper.
Blue Plastic Bags - Please place all trash, garbage, in
this color bag no earlier than 24-hours prior to your scheduled pick up
with Allied Waste.
Paper Yard Waste Bags - Please place all yard waste in this
bag no earlier than 24-hours prior to your scheduled pick up with
Allied Waste.
