Mayor’s Column for May 25, 2016
We are coming to an end to an era. Avon Lake resident Roy Church is retiring from his position as president of Lorain Community College on June 30, 2016. Dr. Church has been recognized nationally as a tireless advocate of preparing students for the local work force. He has stressed developing strong skills in students in order to allow local companies expand and grow good-paying jobs. In addition, he has initiated programs at LCCC that support innovation and entrepreneurship to further benefit the economic well-being of Lorain County.
On May 15th Avon Lake paid tribute to fallen peace officers with a ceremony at the Safety Center. American Legion Post 211 and our local police department participated in the solemn ceremony honoring those across our nation who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We often take for granted the job our police officers do to keep us safe. We are fortunate to have a well-trained police force led by Chief Duane Streator.
The Memorial Day Parade will take place on May 30th beginning at 10:00 AM. The parade will start on Route 83 at the north driveway of Avon Lake High School and proceed west on Electric Boulevard to Glenview Drive. It will follow Glenview Drive as it curves east unto Route 83 and proceed north to Veterans Memorial Park for the traditional ceremonies. We encourage all resident to show their support of those who have served our country.
