Avon Lake Fire Department

safety center3The Avon Lake Fire Department is located at 32811 Walker Road.  The fire department has been at this location since 1978 when it moved from the corner of Lake Road and Route 83.  The new police department and court structures were attached to the existing fire department.

The fire department building consists of five garage “bays” housing two fire engines, one aerial ladder truck, one heavy rescue truck, three advanced life support ambulances and several cars and light trucks.  The remainder of the building is taken up by the communication center, offices, classrooms and storage rooms; because platoon personnel work 24-hour shifts, dormitory rooms, a kitchen, lounge and shower facilities are also included.

live fire_exercise2The fire department is staffed 24-hours, 7-days per week by State of Ohio Licensed Professional Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians who are also trained in confined space entry, technical rescue (as well as water rescue) and many other specific emergency and non-emergency response disciplines.  Platoon personnel begin work at 7 a.m. and remain on duty until 7 a.m. the next morning when they are relieved by another platoon.  During that time period, personnel are not only responsible for prompt and professional response to all types of emergency and non-emergency “calls,” but also attend regularly-scheduled training sessions, conduct vehicle, equipment, fire hydrant, building and grounds maintenance, and assist in the many department special programs serving the general public.

Additionally, the department has a Fire Prevention/Public Education Bureau which is staffed by a Lieutenant and two part-time personnel who are state certified Fire Safety Inspectors.  There is also a Training Bureau, consisting of a Lieutenant/Training officer.  These offices, along with the Secretary-Dispatch position, are staffed Monday through Friday during daytime hours.

The Fire Department and its many services are under the supervision of the Fire Chief.

The non-emergency business line is: 440.933.8305.
For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
