• Recreation Department's Frequently Asked Questions

1. When does the pool open and close for the season and what are the pool hours?
(A) The pool opens on the last day of school and closes for the season on Labor Day. The summer hours are 1:00-9:00 p.m. daily. Once school begins thru Labor Day the hours are Monday-Friday 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1:00-8:00 p.m.

2. How do I register for Swim Lessons?
(A)There is a registration weekend in early May in which you can register for swim lessons and purchase pool passes. From that weekend until the pool opens for the season you may register at the Recreation Department from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

3. When do program registrations begin and how do we register?
(A)Registration forms for all our programs are sent home through the schools and in most cases are available on our website www.avonlakesports.org
(B)Registration for our Tennis and Baton programs takes place in the spring. You may register by mail or in person at the Recreation Department located at 150 Avon Belden Rd.
(C)Baseball registration is held throughout the month of February. Check the website for the exact dates and times.
(D)Soccer registration is held in the spring for a double session 6 weeks in the fall and 6 weeks the following spring. Check the website for the exact dates and times of registration. You may also register by mail and that information is given on the registration form. Soccer registrations are not accepted at the Recreation Department.
(E)Basketball registration takes place in the fall. You may register by mail or in person at the Recreation Department.

4. Do pavilions have to be reserved? Is there a charge?
(A)We take reservations for the 2 pavilions at Weiss Park, the pavilion at Bleser Park and the Gazebo at Miller Rd. Park. There is a $50.00 fee for non-residents – no charge for residents. You can make reservations by calling the Recreation Department at 930-4130.

5. Can I have a wedding at any of the parks?
(A)The Gazebo at Miller Rd. Park is the perfect place for an outdoor wedding. Reservations are taken in two hour increments. The gazebo is designed for wedding ceremonies not wedding receptions. You can make your reservation by calling the Recreation Department.

6. Do Baseball fields need to be reserved? Is there a charge?
(A)Baseball fields are available for reservation beginning in August, prior to that time; the fields are used by our Avon Lake Youth Baseball Federation. There is a $50.00 fee for unlighted fields and a $100.00 fee for lighted fields. You can make a reservation by calling the Recreation Department.

7. How do I know if baseball games have been cancelled?
(A)We have a rain number with a daily update on field conditions that may be accessed by calling 930-4130 after 3:00 p.m.

8. Are dogs allowed in the parks?
(A)No dogs are allowed in Veterans Park including the beach area. Dogs are allowed in all other parks, they must be kept on a leash, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
