Senior Citizen Prom Avon Lake Picture
On a Friday evening early in May, a very special even brings two generations together. Troy Intermediate School students host an annual Senior Citizen Prom. Begun about seven years ago with the help of the mayor, Lively Avon Lakers, Troy PTA members and parent volunteers, this even continues to offer a unique way for senior citizens and students to interact with each other .Individuals and committees generously donate their talents and time to determine the details and an annual theme. Each year over 130 students serve as the hosts and hostesses. From sending out invitations to selecting the music and refreshments, the students enjoy planning and preparing for this event.Over the years, the Troy Senior Citizen Prom has consistently hosted in excess of 100 senior citizens. Positive comments and reaction of the students and senior citizens confirm that the hope and dream of uniting two generation in a positive, meaningful way has been achieved. Both generations have much to share, offer and to learn from each other.

Senior Citizen Luncheon
For the past four years, a monthly Senior Citizen Luncheon is held at Troy Intermediate School. In addition to a delicious meal, various district performance groups provide entertainment Additionally, wellness activities have been planned.

Held on the second Tuesday of each month during the school year, summer luncheons have also been scheduled at the Miller Road Park. The Avon Lake City Schools welcome all resident senior citizens to come and enjoy the food, the schools, and most importantly, the students, staff and each other.

Technology Education Classes
Technology education are made available to Avon Lake residents. Courses are offered to instruct participants in basic computer usage and to expand personal computer skills and applications.

These technology classes are held in computer laboratories at various school sites and taught by an educational consultant. A one-time nominal fee is charged to participate. Over sixty residents have regularly attended past sessions which have provided an enjoyable learning experience for all.
