Notice To All Avon Lake Residents
on Trash Pick-Up

ALLIED WASTE is under contract with the City (residents pay a monthly fee) to pick up garbage; appliances; bagged leaves and grass clippings in paper refuse bags for composting; bundled branches or small twigs in paper bags for composting; blue bag recyclables; bulky items such as furniture, mattress, etc.; carpeting; misc. rubbish and debris; and limited amounts of residential construction debris can be placed at curbside for pick up on the same day as your regular garbage pick up day.

Please note that as of Monday, March 4, 1996, ALL Avon Lake residents have garbage and trash pick-up on MONDAYS, except when a major holiday falls on a Monday; then the pick up day will be on TUESDAY, following the holiday.

The items listed below must conform to the following regulations for curbside pick up by ALLIED WASTE:

  • APPLIANCES CONTAINING REFRIGERANT (refrigerator, freezer, window air conditioner and dehumidifier) – FREON MUST BE REMOVED BY A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN.   A STICKER WILL BE PLACED ON THE ITEM SHOWING THE REMOVAL DATE AND WHO PERFORMED THE REMOVAL.  IF APPLICABLE THE DOORS MUST BE REMOVED.
  • CARPETING – CUT INTO APPROXIMATELY 4 FT. LENGTHS AND TIED.
  • METAL PIPE, METAL TUBING FROM SWINGS, ETC – MUST BE BROKEN DOWN OR CUT TO APPROXIMATELY 4 FT TO 5 FT LENGTHS.
  • YARD WASTE – LEAVES, GRASS CLIPPINGS, GARDEN WASTE, ETC. MUST BE PLACED IN PAPER REFUSE BAGS FOR COMPOSTING AND WEIGHING NO MORE THAN 40 LBS EACH.
  • BRANCHES – CUT INTO APPROXIMATELY 4 FT LENGTHS AND TIED IN BUNDLES OR PLACED IN PAPER REFUSE BAGS FOR COMPOSTING AND WEIGHING NO MORE THAN 40 LBS EACH.
  • CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS – APPROXIMATELY 300 LBS PER WEEK; TIED IN BUNDLES OR PLACED IN CONTAINERS WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 40 LBS EACH; LUMBER CUT TO APPROXIMATELY 4 FT LENGTHS AND TIED IN BUNDLES; SHEET MATERIALS SUCH AS 4 FT X 8FT  PLASTERBOARD, PLYWOOD, PANELING, ETC. CUT IN APPROXIMATELY 2 FT X 3 FT WIDTHS AND TIED IN BUNDLES.  BEND OVER ALL NAILS LEFT IN MATERIAL OR LUMBER.
  • STUMPS, LOGS, RR TIES – ALLIED WASTE WILL PICK UP STUMPS 50 LBS AND UNDER.  THEY WILL TAKE 10 LOGS PER WEEK; RR TIES OR LOGS MUST BE CUT INTO 18" TO 24" LENGTHS.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE PROHIBITED:  INFECTIOUS WASTES, ASBESTOS, SEWAGE SLUDGE, AUTO OR TRUCK BATTERIES, CAR TIRES, USED MOTOR OIL AND DRUMS OVER TEN GALLONS UNLESS EMPTY AND TOPS ARE REMOVED.

PLEASE NOTE:  LORAIN COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT MAKES ARRANGEMENTS FOR COLLECTION OF MANY ITEMS NOT PICKED UP BY ALLIED WASTE SUCH AS CAR TIRES OFF THE RIMS, PAINT, ETC.  THEY ADVERTISE THESE SPECIAL COLLECTIONS PERIODICALLY IN LOCAL NEWSPAPERS.

PLEASE PLACE ALL TRASH, GARBAGE, BLUE BAG RECYCLABLES AND YARD WASTE FOR COMPOSTING IN PAPER REFUSE BAGS ON YOUR TREELAWN AREA, AS NEATLY AS POSSIBLE FOR EASIER PICK UP, NO EARLIER THAN 24-HOURS PRIOR TO THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED ALLIED WASTE PICK UP.

REMEMBER THAT ALL EMPTY REFUSE CANS NEED TO BE REMOVED FROM YOUR TREELAWN AREA WITHIN 24-HOURS AFTER YOUR REGULAR GARBAGE PICK UP.
