(The Avon Lake United Church of Christ broadcasts its service live this Sunday morning at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.)

This week on Public Access, Mayor Greg Zilka and representatives from the Police Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Works, Avon Lake Regional Water, Parks & Recreation and Council were in attendance to answer questions and receive comments from residents at the Wards 3 & 4 meeting of February 27, 2019.  The City Club of Cleveland’s “Good Kids, Bad City” features reporter Kyle Swenson of The Washington Post, and author of "Good Kids, Bad City: A Story of Race and Wrongful Conviction in America.”  In the early 1970s, three African-American men―Wiley Bridgeman, Kwame Ajamu, and Rickey Jackson―were accused and convicted of the brutal robbery and murder of a man outside of a convenience store in Cleveland. In 2011, Kyle Swenson, then a reporter for Cleveland Scene, published a report detailing the flaws in the murder investigation and calling into question Vernon's testimony. This led to their convictions being overturned. Interweaving the dramatic details of the case with Cleveland’s history―one that, to this day, is fraught with systemic discrimination and racial tension—Mr. Swenson explains how and why this injustice occurred.  Host Kathryn Eyring talks with singer Greg Piscura on “Aging Gracefully.”
