This week on Public Access, Avon Lake school staff, members of the Avon Lake Police, and Avon Lake City representatives participated in an open forum on school safety on February 27, 2018. This forum was held to answer questions regarding the school safety plan and to address any concerns from the community. The City Club of Cleveland’s “Evicted at Home: The Realities of Housing in Northeast Ohio” looks inside the issues, the courts, the lived experience, and the solutions that might change the situation for our families and neighbors at the margins. In the prologue to Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City, author Matthew Desmond points out how completely ordinary and common the eviction experience is in most cities across the nation. Though his Pulitzer Prize winning book is reported from Milwaukee, he writes, "...there is nothing special about Milwaukee when it comes to eviction. The numbers are similar in Kansas City, Cleveland, Chicago, and other cities. In 2013, one in eight poor renting families nationwide were unable to pay off all of their rent, and a similar number thought it was likely they would be evicted soon." But simply knowing that one in eight poor families might be on the verge of eviction does not paint the full picture of what is happening in Northeast Ohio communities. On “Exploring History Today,” award-winning teacher and author, Sean Crum, shares stories of famous art thefts and forgeries on “Famous Forgeries & Art Thefts: The Dark Side of Art.”
