Civil Service Commission

The Civil Service Commission administers and enforces the Civil Service Ordinance of the City of Avon Lake (City), and the rules and regulations prescribed by the Commission relative to the Civil Service of the City. 

Members

The Civil Service Commission consists of three (3) electors of the City who do not old hold other municipal offices or appointments. Members serve six (6) year terms.

  • Richard Tayek (term expires 12/31/2027)
  • William Albrecht, Secretary (term expires 12/31/2029)

Responsibilities

  • Administer and enforce the Civil Service Ordinance of the City and the rules and regulations relative to the City of Avon Lake.
  • Conduct entrance examinations and promotional examinations.
  • Recommend to Council, for their approval, the exempt or unclassified position in the City and is guided by the laws of the State of Ohio.
  • Provide for appeals from the action of the Mayor in any case of transfer, reduction, or removal.
  • Keep a record of its proceedings and examinations.

Meetings 

Civil Service Commission meetings are held in the Council Chambers located at Avon Lake City Hall, 150 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012. Meetings are typically on the first Monday of each month at 4:30 p.m.
