Avon Lake Receives Tree City USA 31st Year Award with 2nd Year Growth Award

Avon Lake was one of six cities in Northeastern Ohio to be awarded a Growth Award by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Mayor Mark Spaetzel, Public Works Director Jon Liskovec, Public Works Administrative Assistant Celena Crytzer, and Councilwoman and Tree Commission Representative Jennifer Fenderbosch accepted the two awards: Tree City USA 31st year and 2nd Year Growth Award for the City at the Ohio Division of Forestry event hosted by the City of Rocky River.

Avon Lake’s Tree Commission was established in 1994 to advise Council, the Urban Forester (fka Municipal Arborist), the Planning Commission and the Mayor on matters concerning the establishment, care and disposition of trees and shrubs on all City managed properties, including tree lawns. The Commission encourages all property owners to help protect and grow healthy trees and shrubs to support an urban forest that will provide long-lasting benefits to all of Avon Lake’s residents and visitors.
