07/30/2024 – Avon Lake, Ohio – “We appreciate the community’s valuable feedback and concerns regarding the upcoming implosion and want to provide an important update. The Avon Lake Environmental Redevelopment Group (ALERG) announced that ALERG’s long-planned implosion of the boiler building #9 and #10 will take place on July 31, 2024 between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM EST. This planned implosion is the next step toward the demolition and redevelopment of the former Avon Lake Power Plant. In preparation for this milestone, ALERG has performed comprehensive dust abatement, asbestos abatement and removal of other hazardous materials at the facility for over the past year. Ohio EPA representatives have toured the plant site and reviewed ALERG’s site preparation activities. On July 30, 2024, City representatives confirmed the Ohio EPA’s Air Division is both aware of the planned implosion and will be present to monitor demolition activities themselves. Full Story

Ford Announces Investment, Expansion, and a new Electric Vehicle for the Ohio Assembly Plant
06/02/2022 – On Thursday, June 2, Ford announced that as part of a nationwide investment in its facilities, the Company will invest $1.5 billion in the Ohio Assembly Plant, add 1,800 new union jobs to that plant, and make it the new production site for an all-new electric commercial vehicle. Ford’s announcement today pertained to more than just the Ohio Assembly Plant. The massive plan calls for a $3.7 billion investment in Ford facilities nationwide and 6,200 new union manufacturing jobs in Ohio, Michigan, and Missouri. Ford’s Ohio Assembly Plant sits in three different cities: Avon Lake, Sheffield Village, and Sheffield Lake. Currently the plant employs about 1,740 employees, so Ford’s announced job creation will roughly double the number of employees at the plant. Ford has not announced yet how much of the building expansion will be in each city. Estimates of how much income tax and property tax revenue from this announcement will have to wait until Ford provides that information. Full Story

04/21/2020 – On Sunday, March 15, Avon Lake's Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) announced that their organization was committed to financially supporting Avon Lake restaurants and bars in light of Governor DeWine's order to close them. Now, just over one month later, the CIC has completed a grant program that invested $98,000 into 25 different restaurants and bars in Avon Lake. Along the way, they formed a partnership with Avon Lake Waterfront Corp. (A.L. Waterfront), the group that puts on the Avon Lake Waterfront Wine Festival. With the assistance from A.L. Waterront, every grantee got $3,000 or $4,000. Full Story
Avon Lake Grants Almost $87,000 to City Businesses Through its Job Growth Incentive Program
04/16/2020 – On Monday, April 13, Avon Lake City Council approved this year's awards for the City's Job Growth Incentive Program (JGIP). This unique program was created in 2012 and reauthorized in 2017. It is primarily a business retention program but also sometimes acts as a business incentive. Each spring, the City looks at the business income tax (withholding) for every business in Avon Lake. Every business that has a year-over-year increase in income tax receives a grant award fro the City in the amount of 25% of the increase, with a maximum award of $50,000 and a minimum award of $25. Eligible organizations are for-profit entities that have a substantial part of their operation occurring at a commercial property in Avon Lake; home-based businesses do not qualify. Full Story
The Cities and School Districts of Avon and Avon Lake team up with local hospitals for the Covid-19 Heroes Fund
04/15/2020 – On Wednesday, April 15, we will launch a campaign called the Covid-19 Heroes Fund, which has been created to support our frontline workers who work tirelessly to protect our residents. The Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, and MercyHealth are participating with these two communities to show their gratitude toward these hospitals and their caregivers by making donations to the Heroes Fund, which will run until May 8. 12/03/2019 – On Wednesday, December 4th at 12:00pm, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at Ibiza, a new Mediterranean restaurant, at 33481 Lake Road in Avon Lake. Ibiza gets its name from the Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea off the eastern cost of Spain. Antonio Ponce, the owner of this new Avon Lake restaurant, has been working in Spanish cuisine for nearly 25 years. He started in the Spanish and Portuguese rich communities in New Jersey, and moved to Cleveland in 1996 to help open Mallorca, the popular Spanish restaurant on W.9th Street in Cleveland's Warehouse District. From there, Ponce went to Sangria Y Tapas near Detroit and Dover Center in Westlake. So why name his own restaurant Ibiza? "Ibiza is the party island," says Ponce. United Auto Workers (UAW) Document Shows Plan for New Product, $900 Million Investment at Ford Ohio Assembly Plant (OHAP)
11/01/2019 – On Friday, November 1, the UAW released a document titled "UAW Ford Contract Summary: Hourly Workers." Page 7 of that document is labeled "Product and Investment," and lists eight assembly operations that are slated for new investments. 7th Annual North Coast Business Expo on April 25, 2019 in Avon Lake
04/02/2019 – On Thursday, April 25th, the 7th annual North Coast Business Expo will take place at Sprenger Health Care Systems' Main Street Care Center, 500 Community Drive in Avon Lake. Approximately 40 local businesses and organizations will have tables from which they can share information with attendees. These exhibitors will have a networking hour between 1pm and 2pm, and then the Expo will be open to the public from 2pm - 4pm. This is the fifth year in a row that the Expo has been hosted by Sprenger Health Care Systems, and Sprenger provides free food for all exhibitors and attendees. Those attending the Expo should park in the Towne Center shopping areas main parking lot, behind First Federal, where a shuttle will pick them up and take them to and fro the Expo. Full Story
