About the Avon Lake Building Department

The Avon Lake Building Department issues permits for the construction of all buildings and structures. We perform the inspections required by each permit. We also perform plan reviews of all building projects as needed. Additionally, the Building Department registers contractors who are working in our City.

Working with the Building Department

The Building Department has certified building inspectors on staff, including electrical and plumbing inspectors. We will work with both residents and contractors to answer questions related to building projects and building construction issues. We enforce the Ohio Building Code and the Residential Code of Ohio. These codes include the enforcement of the National Electric Code, the Ohio Mechanical Code, and the Ohio Plumbing Code. Residents, architects, engineers, building owners, tenants, and project managers are all encouraged to contact us to learn more.

For your convenience, an after-hours drop box is available for submitting paperwork after normal business hours (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). The drop box is located at the entrance of the building at 750 Avon Belden Road. Items in the box are collected every weekday morning. Any items that are too large to be placed in the box must be delivered during normal business hours.
