Contractor Registration
Any contractor working in the City of Avon Lake must be registered through the Access Our Avon Lake - OpenGov portal. The registration fee is $100.00. Registered contractors are required to renew their registration with the City annually.

How to Register
To register with the City of Avon Lake you must create an account through the Access Our Avon Lake - OpenGov portal. Once you have created an account you can log in to update your information or renew your registration at any time.
Step-by-Step
- Create an account (If you already have an OpenGov account with another city you can skip this step).
- Complete the appropriate registration form:
- Upload required documents (see below).
- Pay the registration fee via credit card or eCheck. Payment by check can be made in person at the Building Department located at 750 Avon Belden Road

Required Documents
Contractor Registration
- $15,000 Surety Bond with Power of Attorney attached. Download the Surety Bond form (this form is also available in the Access Our Avon Lake - OpenGov portal).
- Certificate of Insurance naming City of Avon Lake as Certificate Holder (minimum of $500,000).
- Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Fire Protection - Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB) License.
- Workers’ Compensation Certificate if contractor is covered as required by the State of Ohio.
Landscaper Registration
- $5,000 Surety Bond with Power of Attorney attached. ownload the Surety Bond form (this form is also available in the Access Our Avon Lake - OpenGov portal).
- Certificate of Insurance naming City of Avon Lake as Certificate Holder (minimum of $100,000).
- Pesticide Applicator and Fertilizer Applicator - Ohio Commercial Applicator’s Certificate.
- Workers’ Compensation Certificate if contractor is covered as required by the State of Ohio.
Renewing Your Registration
Registered contractors are required to renew their registration with the City of Avon Lake annually.
- Once you are successfully registered through the Access Our Avon Lake - OpenGov portal you will automatically receive an email reminder from OpenGov each year to renew your registration. The email will include a link to log into the portal and pay the renewal fee. However, you don't have to wait to receive the email reminder. You also have the option of logging into your account at any time to complete your renewal.
- IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ — Once you have created an account through the portal, there is no need to create an account again. You simply need to log into your existing account to renew your registration. When you follow the renewal process through OpenGov it will save you time and frustration, and keep our database free of duplicate records.
