SAFETY TOWN

Safety Town is an engaging educational program aimed at teaching children about various safety topics and skills applicable to real-life situations. It's tailored for kids entering kindergarten in the fall.

Each day features a different theme, covering topics such as traffic and pedestrian safety, stranger and drug awareness, bicycle and animal safety, home safety and emergency phone use, interactions with police, fire safety, school bus and seatbelt safety, as well as outdoor and water safety.

Safety Town takes place at Westview Elementary School, located at 155 Moore Rd. This safety education program is designed for children entering kindergarten. One of the primary goals is to help each child learn to state their full name, address, and phone number. Participants will receive guidance on how to protect themselves from strangers and meet the professionals who provide safety services in our city. They will also ride on an actual school bus and receive instruction on school bus safety.

A dedicated staff, including two certified teachers and several youth volunteers from the community, will be present daily to teach children about essential safety topics. Weather permitting, part of the day will be spent outdoors in a miniature town that features crosswalks, traffic signals, and sidewalks. Children will practice safety skills while riding supervised on kit cars. The remainder of the day will be spent indoors, focusing on additional safety lessons.

Safety Town sessions will proceed as scheduled, rain or shine.
