Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at The Anchor, an Avon Lake Recreation Facility

02/13/2018 – The Avon Lake Recreation Department is expanding its program offerings with the addition of a new multi-court recreation facility: The Anchor. This new indoor space will accommodate basketball, tennis, volleyball, dodgeball, fitness classes, badminton, pickleball, lacrosse, special events, social activities, rentals and more. This facility will be having its grand opening on Wednesday, February 21 (details below).

The Anchor, an Avon Lake Recreation Facility, is located in one of the most notable historic buildings in Avon Lake. Its address is 33483 Lake Road, and the 7,000 square feet that it occupies was for many years the old movie theater. The entrance to The Anchor is next to the Mona Lisa Eco Spa’lon, which was originally the movie theater’s entrance. The entrance hall to The Anchor used to be a drive through passage that was enclosed during one of the many renovations of the Saddle Inn. Now that space has the reception desk for this new recreation venue.

Most programs will have drop-in fees or punch-pass/membership options. No facility membership is required. Fitness classes will cost $10 for a resident and $12 for a non-resident for a drop-in. A 12-visit monthly punch pass is available for $60 (resident) or $80 (non-resident). For those visitors who look to use a pass less often and have it available for 12 months, a 10-punch pass is available for $80 (resident) and $100 (non-resident). Other programming fees can be found on program web pages when available.

“We are going to be able to offer programs to residents in the community that the city has never had before,” said Tim Pinchek, Avon Lake Recreation Director, “The word has gotten out and the phone calls have been coming in—more and more every day—about what we are going to have available in this space.”

Details for the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting are as follows:
• 33483 Lake Road, use the door just to the right of the Mona Lisa Eco Spa’Lon.
• Parking is available in the main lot in front of The Anchor
• Ribbon cutting and welcome ceremony at 6:00pm on Wednesday, February 21.
• Following the brief ceremony, light refreshments will be served and the facility will be open for play and tours.
