Avon Lake community comes together for 250 Jubilee celebrating America’s 250th anniversary

01/21/2026 – Avon Lake, Ohio – The Avon Lake Historical Society, in partnership with the City of Avon Lake, Avon Lake Public Library, Sprenger Health Care Systems, and Shoreline Promotions, is excited to announce the 250 Jubilee, a community-wide celebration honoring America’s 250th birthday and Avon Lake’s proud place in that story.

The 250 Jubilee will be a months-long festival featuring a wide variety of events designed to bring residents together through history, fun, and community spirit. The celebration will begin on May 2, 2026, with a Kickoff Event, and culminate in a grand fireworks display on July 3, 2026, at Weiss Field (33401 Webber Road).
“This event truly reflects the heart of our community,” said Mark Spaetzel, Avon Lake City Mayor. “It’s inspiring to see so many of our organizations, volunteers, and residents working together to honor our nation’s history while creating meaningful experiences for families today. The 250 Jubilee is a wonderful example of what we can accomplish when we come together as a community.”

Presented by the Avon Lake Historical Society, the 250 Jubilee offers family-friendly fun with a nostalgic flair. Planned activities include the Jubilee Jog 5k, Donkey Baseball, Beard Growing Contest, Pickleball Tournament, and much more.

“Our goal is to create a celebration that honors the past while engaging the entire community,” said Tony Tomanek, President of Avon Lake Historical Society. “As a lifelong Avon Laker, I have seen how moments like this can bring out our very best. The Bicentennial in 1976 had a kind of magic that brought neighbors together. As we look toward the 250th, my hope is to recapture that spirit, celebrate our shared past, strengthen our community, and above all, have a lot of fun.”
