Ribbon Cutting at Maison and Antica Modern on Friday, October 23, at 12:00 p.m.

10/20/2020 – On Friday, October 23, at 12:00pm, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at two businesses that are collocated at 186 Lear Road: Maison and Antica Modern.

Though they are separate businesses, Maison and Antica Modern are connected through the products that they sell. Maison offers one of a kind vintage and antique furniture pieces that have been painted and updated to match current home decor trends, as well as home decor items and hand poured candles. Maison also has one of a kind custom pieces (charcuterie boards, blanket ladders, bird houses, welcome signs) made by local artisans. Antica Modern is a boutique and e-commerce paint shop which is proud to offer best in class paints, stains, and finishes for cabinets, furniture, fabrics, metal, and home décor, and they also offer custom painting and workshops.

Both businesses saw something special in a charming business section of Lear Road in Avon Lake. “Our business offers something new to the community of Avon Lake, and in particular Lear Road,” says Chris Rodriguez, owner of Maison (the full name is Maison: Designs by C Marie). “We have located in a quaint business district, which is easily accessible from I-90 as well as Lake Road.” Anette Sullivan is opening her second location for Antica Modern, with the first opening in Lakewood three years ago. She says, “Lear Road was attractive because it is easily accessible and is a much calmer, affordable area which allows us to keep prices lower.”

What do these businesses most want the community to know? “Because we offer one-of-a-kind pieces,” says Rodriguez, “inventory is frequently changing. We love the small community feel and want customers to come by and just feel welcome and relaxed.” Sullivan points to the wide range of services at Antica Modern: “We offer various workshops and custom painting services! We will have workshops for adults and kids, holiday and seasonal events, and lots of ways to be creative and have fun!”

The City of Avon Lake is particularly excited about the location that these two pedestrian-friendly businesses have chosen. “This northern section of Lear Road is identified in our Comprehensive Land Use Plan as a focus area,” says Avon Lake Economic Development Director Ted Esborn. “The City’s plan for this area, surrounded by a charming historical neighborhood, is to increase walkability and attract businesses that create an enjoyable space—businesses just like Maison and Antica Modern. These warm and welcoming shops make spending time on Lear Road more appealing, and that’s exactly the effect we are going for.”
