Community Police Academy

UPDATE: This program has been cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19.

About the Avon Lake Community Police Academy

The Community Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Avon Lake Police Department. The program is held for ten consecutive Wednesday nights starting each September. Each session will cover separate areas of the department’s operations, including topics such as firearms, communications, patrol and computer forensics. Instruction will consist of lectures, demonstrations and participation.

The main goal of the Community Police Academy is to provide information to the public that will increase the rapport between citizens and Avon Lake Police Department officers. We also anticipate that participants will become better aware and informed on how the Avon Lake Police Department operates.

We hope that the graduates of the Academy will utilized their knowledge gained through the program to assist the Police Department in its goals of providing a safe community for the citizens of Avon Lake.

The Academy is open to anyone 21 years of age and older. Participants are required to complete an application form and are subject to a background investigation. The classes will be filled on a first come basis. All participants are expected to attend all sessions of the program.

We start advertising & collecting applications for the Community Police Academy July through August. Follow us on Facebook & Twitter for any updates about the program.
