About the Avon Lake Community Police Academy

We start advertising & collecting applications for the Community Police Academy July through August. Follow us on Facebook & Twitter for any updates about the program.

The Community Police Academy is a program designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Avon Lake Police Department. The program is held one night a week for 10 weeks, typically beginning in September. Each session covers different areas of the department’s operations, including topics such as firearms, communications, patrol, and computer forensics. Instruction will consist of lectures, demonstrations and hands on participation.

The goal of the Community Police Academy is to provide information to the public on how our department operates & increase the rapport between citizens and Avon Lake Police Department officers.

The Academy is open to adults 21 years of age and older. Participants are required to complete an application form and are subject to a background investigation. Slots for the academy are filled on a first come basis. Participants are expected to attend every session of the program.
