The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey is coming to Avon Lake

Portions of Lorain County that include the City of Avon Lake have been randomly selected for the upcoming National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) annual sample.

Professional interviewers will be conducting the survey in Avon Lake starting in mid-July through the end of September.

NHANES is a national survey that measures the health and nutrition of adults and children in the United States. It is run by the National Center for Health Statistics, part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is the only nationally representative study that collects information based on interviews and physical exams. Randomly selected households receive letters from NHANES inviting them to participate, and representatives visit those households to conduct in-person interviews.

After completing the interview, individuals will be asked to schedule a confidential physical exam at the NHAMES Mobile Exam Center, which will be located at Lorain Community College (1005 Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035) through the end of September.

Approximately 5,000 randomly selected individuals participate in NHANES each year. Collected data is private and helps shape national health programs and policies. For more information about NHANES, visit https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nhanes/.
