AQUATIC SUPERVISOR

FULL DESCRIPTION


LIFEGUARD

  • Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors
  • Enforce all rules and regulations of the pool in an effective, fair, and consistent manner
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary facility
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergency situations
  • Represent the city at all times in a professional manner
  • Relate well with the public and be highly reliable
  • Attend regular in-services and meetings
  • Hourly rate starting at $13.25

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old 
  • Must maintain the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Waterfront, Waterpark & Bloodborne Pathogens certificate. (City offers certification courses)

LIFEGUARD SUPERVISOR

  • Available at least 30-40 hours a week for the majority of the summer. Must be available weekends
  • Show the ability to teach and work with others in a difficult environment
  • Be well versed in all Lifeguard skills and job requirements
  • Uphold all skills and job requirements to their highest level
  • Show the ability to take on additional tasks, such as completing the schedule, running in-services, filling out daily paperwork, and maintaining inventory
  • Hourly rate starting at $16.00

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • Preferred 18 years of age or older 
  • Must maintain the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Waterfront, Waterpark & Bloodborne Pathogens certification. Preferred holder for at least 1 year with working knowledge

ADMISSION STAFF

  • Admissions staff have the first interaction with patrons and are required to be courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable about all rules and procedures of the pool
  • Responsible for money transactions, including daily admission transactions and balancing admission sales at the end of the day
  • Check pool passes and verify residency for daily admission
  • Responsibilities may include non-lifeguard positions at big water slide and lazy river
  • Answer phones and interact with patrons
  • Hourly rate starting at $11.75

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old
  • Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail

MAINTENANCE STAFF

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary facility. Monitor pool water (4) times daily. Water is tested and must meet all standards
  • Duties include cleaning of bathrooms, pool, pool deck and other areas. Trash is emptied and taken out daily 
  • Perform lawn care
  • Complete all required records and reports
  • Responsibilities may include non-lifeguard positions at big water slide and lazy river
  • Hourly rate starting at $11.75

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old
  • Attention to detail

CONCESSION STAFF

  • Available for a majority of the summer; weekdays and weekends
  • Follow scheduling and adhere to policies concerning shift changes
  • Cash handling: run registers and counting cash
  • Learn to handle food safely
  • Communicates well with coworkers and supervisors
  • Hourly rate starting at $11.75

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old
  • Excellent customer service skills

CONCESSION SUPERVISOR

  • Cash handling with the ability to coach others
  • Flexibility in scheduling (times and locations), available 20-30 hours per week, including weekends
  • Responsible to open/close concession stands; meet cleaning standards
  • Food Preparation and safety with the ability to coach others
  • Take food handling safety class (online, paid for by ALCP)
  • Communicates well with coworkers and other supervisors
  • Hourly rate starting at $12.75

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old
  • Excellent customer service skills

GREENBOX ATTENDANT

  • This position is an outdoor position that works with children, parents and independently
  • Successfully follow instructions and assist children in creating crafts
  • Shifts are Tues/Thurs, Weds/Thurs or Monday-Thursday (mornings/early afternoons/evenings)
  • Average hours per week: 8-16, June-July, 6 weeks, plus prep time
  • Hourly rate starting at $11.00

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old 
  • Childcare experience preferred
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (Avon Lake Recreation can assist with obtaining)

PARK ATTENDANT

  • This position is primarily an outdoor position in our city parks
  • Conduct patrol of city parks and routinely provide customer service to park visitors while enforcing park rules
  • Assist other city employees with orderly direction of visitors and/or traffic
  • Disseminate information regarding rules and regulations
  • Assist the Service Department in maintaining the cleanliness of parks and beaches by picking up litter, cleaning playground equipment if necessary
  • Implementation of various summer programs ie., Fishing with Friends, Yoga in the Park, Friday Flicks, and others
  • Attend city events to assist with set-up, tear-down, crowds and vendors
  • Average hours per week varies, up to 40 hours, (mornings, days, evenings and weekends as needed), mid-May-August
  • Hourly rate starting at $12.00

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years old with previous customer service work experience
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (Avon Lake Recreation can assist with obtaining) 
  • Successfully complete a pre-season in-service training
  • Valid driver’s license

SAFETY TOWN TEACHERS

  • This position will work well with children, parents and our safety partners
  • Successfully lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities
  • Maintain a safe environment and ensure the safety of all campers
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues
  • Average hours per week varies, up to 40 hours, Monday-Friday, (mornings, afternoons, evenings), June-July, plus prep time
  • Hourly rate starting at $15.00

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • B.A. in Education or related field, current teacher certification or equivalent
  • Classroom experience of at least (1) year
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (Avon Lake Recreation can assist with obtaining) 
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Clear background check

SUMMER CAMP

Our Summer Camp program is designed to maximize camper’s time outdoors while playing games and sports, swimming, field trips and doing crafts.  Our programs emphasize fun and creativity. We seek teachers who are eager, organized, responsible, outgoing and have confidence in teaching children ages 6-10 years of age. Camps run in 5, 1-week themed sessions with up to 50-60 students per session. There will be two field trip days, 1-2 pool days, and lots of walking to our local parks. Teachers usually work between 3-6 sessions. Sessions are Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm with early drop off at 8:00am and after care until 5:30pm. We offer great compensation including paid prep and planning time, all supplies provided, and a clear and easy-to-teach curriculum.


SUMMER CAMP TEACHERS

  • This position is primarily an outdoor position 
  • This position will work well with children, parents and our activity partners
  • Maintain a safe environment and ensure the safety of all campers
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, swimming, field trips, etc.
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
  • Average hours per week varies, up to 40 hours, Monday-Friday, (mornings, afternoons), June-July, plus prep time
  • Hourly rate starting at $15.00

 Qualifications and Skills

FIELD ATTENDANT

  • Supervise recreation/travel baseball and softball games at Bleser Park and Weiss Field
  • Ensure that all games start on time and provide gameballs/scoreboards to each field
  • Patrols fields before, during, and after games
  • Handle rule interpretation and enforcement when necessary
  • Maintain fields in-between games
  • Assist in the planning and organization of summer sport program
  • Hours are mainly evenings and weekends
  • Hourly rate starting at $12.00

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years old
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (Avon Lake Recreation can assist with obtaining)

3 ON 3 SUMMER SUPERVISOR

  • Supervise summer basketball 3 on 3 program at Bleser Park
  • Manage gameday operations
  • Ensure that all games start on time and provide equipment to each court
  • Handle rule interpretation and enforcement when necessary
  • Hours are Monday-Friday, morning/early afternoon
  • Hourly rate starting at $12.00

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (Avon Lake Recreation can assist with obtaining)

3 ON 3 SUMMER REFEREE AND SCOREKEEPER

  • Ability to learn how to score basketball games
  • Properly run the scoreboard and inform referees of any game changes
  • Physical requirements: running up and down the court
  • Hours are Monday-Friday morning/early afternoon
  • Hourly rate varies

 Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old
  • Will accept high school age refs but also looking for certified officials
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (Avon Lake Recreation can assist with obtaining)
