Avon Lake Community Television Brings Home Philo T. Farnsworth Video Competition Award

01/31/2024 – The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, as part of the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards, recognized the City’s efforts with the Philo T. Farnsworth “2023 Excellence in Editing” award for Lucas Hricko’s video “Our Avon Lake.” The City received top regional honors out of the more than 160 entries submitted from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. “Our Avon Lake” was also named the professional winner in the “Promotional Video (3:01 or More)” category.

Lucas Hricko, Production Assistant, has received awards in previous years, including awards for "The Jackie-O Show: Ohio Village Muffins vs. Avon Lake" and "The Haunted Trails at Weiss Park.”

For this year’s award, Mr. Hricko states, “I would like to thank all of my coworkers at the Avon Lake Communications & Technology Department for their contributions to the “Our Avon Lake” video. This project was a team effort to present the best features of the city, and we are very honored to win in two categories.”

"To have our peers, people who do what we do, recognize our video for the skills necessary to produce “Our Avon Lake” is quite an honor," Barb Cagley, Director of Communications & Technology Department said. “If you have not had a chance to see the video, visit the City’s website. There you can also find other videos that our Department is really proud of.”

Each year, the Alliance For Community Media Central States Region (ACM-CS), which represents more than 3,000 public, educational, and governmental access organizations and community media centers in the country, salutes the best community programming with a regional video contest, the “Philo Festival Of Media Arts Video Competition.” Named after Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of the first receiving tube for television transmissions, the “Philo” is awarded as recognition of excellence in media creation that works to further develop the use of this technology and promote the use of media in our communities.
