Avon Lake Community Television - 2020 Philo Festival of Media Arts Awards Recipient
09/02/2020 – On August 27, 2020, the Alliance for Community Media - Central States Region announced the 2020 Philo Media Award winners. Of 200 entries that were submitted, Avon Lake Community Television (ALC-TV) won five awards and received nominations for “Best in Show,” “Excellence in Editing” and “Best Series Program.” These and other shows are available for viewing at www.AvonLake.org/Digital-Media.
ALCTV’s Lucas Hricko, Production Assistant, has been named a winner in “Sports Entertainment/Talk” for Jackie Tomco’s “The Jackie-O Show: Ohio Village Muffins vs. Avon Lake” and a finalist in “Community Event General - Parades/Festivals” for his work on “The Jackie-O Show at the Fourth of July Jubilee.” Kathryn Eyring’s “Aging Gracefully with Guest Glenn Blair” was a finalist in “Interview/Talk Show” with editing from Brian Bowles, Production Assistant. Mr. Bowles has also been named a finalist in “Sports Entertainment/Talk” for his work on “Avon Lake State Champions Nikki and Christine Chiricosta.” Avon Lake resident, Chris Quinlan’s “Community Connection with Guest David Kos” has been named a finalist in “Underserved Voices” with editing from Stephanie Biggers, Production Coordinator.
Mr. Hricko’s “Boo by the Woods 2019” has been nominated for “Excellence in Editing” as well as “Best in Show,” which is the overall most amazing media of the year. Ms. Eyring’s “Aging Gracefully with Guest Glenn Blair” has been nominated for “Best Series Programs.” The Philo T. Farnsworth Excellence Award Winners will be announced during the Philo Festival of Media Arts Award virtual ceremony in October.
Each year, the Alliance For Community Media Central States Region salutes the best community programming with a regional video contest, the “Philo Festival Of Media Arts Video Competition.” Named after Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of the first receiving tube for television transmissions, the Philos recognize the efforts of modern day pioneers who work to promote the use of media in the community.
Avon Lake Community Television is a Department of the City of Avon Lake and is comprised of two channels: government access and public access. ALC-TV Government Access Channel provides a means of communicating government activities, issues, legislation, events, and meetings. Through taped and live productions and a computerized bulletin board, the staffed station works to keep the citizens of Avon Lake aware, informed, and active in local, regional, and national levels of government. ALC-TV Public Access Channel provides an “open forum” television format for all citizens, groups, organizations, clubs and enterprises of Avon Lake to produce non-commercial, informational programming. ALC-TV staff provides training to city residents and business owners in the handling and operation of cameras and editing equipment. The Public Channel airs programs produced by residents, businesses or groups of Avon Lake. ALC-TV is a division of the City of Avon Lake’s Digital Media Department.
