Avon Lake Community Television - 2021 Philo Festival of Media Arts Awards Recipient

11/18/2021 – On August 13, 2021, the Alliance for Community Media - Central States Region announced the 2021
Philo Media Award winners. Of over 160 entries that were submitted from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, Avon Lake Community Television (ALC-TV) won three awards. These and other shows are available for viewing at www.AvonLake.org/Digital-Media.

ALC-TV’s Stephanie Biggers, Production Coordinator, has been named a winner in “Comedy/Humor” for “Running with Scissors: Avon Lake Ribbon Cuttings.” This video features Mayor Greg Zilka and Economic Development Director Ted Esborn as they run through the city to perform ribbon cuttings at the eight new businesses/new business locations that opened or moved between March and June 2020.

ALC-TV’s Lucas Hricko, Production Assistant, has been named a winner in “Community Event General” for “The Haunted Trails at Weiss Park.” This is the second year in a row that Mr. Hricko has won an award for his production, featuring Avon Lake’s Halloween event.

Avon Lake Public Producer, Traci McBride, has been named a winner in “Interview/Talk Show” for her program “Indelible Impression with TeeMcBee” with editing from Stephanie Biggers, Production Coordinator. In this winning episode, host Traci McBride talks with Tamsin Astor, PhD., author of "Force of Habit", about her book and the benefit of building better habits.

Each year, the Alliance For Community Media Central States Region salutes the best community programming with a regional video contest, the “Philo Festival Of Media Arts Video Competition.” Named after Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of the first receiving tube for television transmissions, the Philos recognize the efforts of modern day pioneers who work to promote the use of media in the community.
Avon Lake Community Television is a Department of the City of Avon Lake and is comprised of two channels: government access and public access. ALC-TV Government Access Channel provides a means of communicating government activities, issues, legislation, events, and meetings. Through taped and live productions and a computerized bulletin board, the staffed station works to keep the citizens of Avon Lake aware, informed, and active in local, regional, and national levels of government. ALC-TV Public Access Channel provides an “open forum” television format for all citizens, groups, organizations, clubs and enterprises of Avon Lake to produce non-commercial, informational programming. ALC-TV staff provides training to city residents and business owners in the handling and operation of cameras and editing equipment. The Public Channel airs programs produced by residents, businesses or groups of Avon Lake. ALC-TV is a division of the City of Avon Lake’s Digital Media Department.
