Avon Lake Regional Water Authority is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of Water Filtration Plant Operator. All vacancies will be filled from this list. 

Under supervision of the Water Filtration Plant Manager and/or the Chief Utilities Executive, the operator will be responsible for plant operations and related work as required on alternating shifts.  The current operations are twelve-hour shifts and is subject to return to eight-hour shifts based on the present-day conditions in the water filtration plant.

The selected individual shall operate and control water plant facilities such as: filtration and pumping of water; making and interpreting periodic chemical tests; making adjustments in filtration rates; checking and selecting pumps to operate; making adjustments in chemical feed rates; and maintenance of plant and equipment.  In general, the operator shall perform all the necessary functions in the production of potable water.  The selected individual must possess normal physical abilities required in hands-on operation of the above-listed job duties; be alert to ever changing problems of water purification; and, possess a good working knowledge of operational practices and maintenance problems and have the ability to keep accurate and complete records. The operator is responsible for selection and adjustments to plant operation during their shift.  When working afternoon or night shifts, weekends, and holidays, the operator is in primary charge of plant operations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

The selected applicant must possess a High School Diploma or GED, plus one (1) year formal training as an Operator-in-Training or equivalent (proof required).

Must possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

LICENSES

Must possess a Class 1 (one) Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Water Supply (or higher) and a valid Ohio Driver’s License at the time of application and maintain same throughout employment.

SALARY RANGE – $24.72/hour to $37.91/hour plus comprehensive benefits 

Applications may be obtained on-line at or in-person from (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) at Avon Lake Municipal Building, 150 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake, Ohio beginning Monday, January 31, 2022.  All applications are due no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022.

A twenty-five dollar ($25.00) non-refundable filing fee is required when the application is returned.  Said fee shall be in the form of cash or personal check payable to the City of Avon Lake.
