Spring and summer are a time of renewal. Spring is also the time many people begin to plan home improvement projects. Now that we’ve seen the last of Old Man Winter, please remember to consult the building department to ensure compliance with the building and zoning codes that are essential to ensuring the health and safety of our community.

By now you may have noticed the resurfacing of State Route 6, also known as Lake Road. The project, which includes the widening of the current bike path, encompasses the length of Lake from the Sheffield Lake border to the Bay Village line. Once complete, the bike path will be dedicated to the memory of Randy Knilans who tragically lost his life doing one of his favorite things, riding his bike along Lake Road. A drunk driver ended Randy’s life several years ago. He was a valuable member of Avon Lake Planning Commission for over 25 years, and the city benefitted tremendously from his expertise as an architect
as well as his common-sense approach. He worked diligently to shape Avon Lake into a vibrant community for families to live, work, and visit by providing thoughtful insight and objective recommendations.

As summer quickly approaches, we hope you will join us for another exciting and fun- filled season! Below you’ll find many opportunities the city provides to enjoy our beautiful outdoor spaces and lakefront. We hope you will come see why life is better on the lake!

Mayor, City of Avon Lake
